The federal government has announced plans to add 2,260 megawatts to the national grid with the approval of 14 solar projects, as disclosed by the minister of power, works and housing , Raji Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday March 14. Royal at the conference room of the ministry in Abuja. He said the project would soon commence as the financial agreement has already been approved. Fasholal called for the establishment of more solar panel factors in Nigeria, saying assembling and manufacturing them here would reduce the cost. Speaking on the resuscitation of Lake Chad, Fashola noted that the Lake Chad has been a front burner issue for the Buhari administration. He said: “President Buhari has continually explained that it is the interest of the Europe and the entire continent of Africa to ensure that we preserve, we renew and we restore Lake Chad for all the communities whose livelihood and sustenance depend on it.” Meanwhile, investigation has revealed that electricity distribution companies across Nigeria are rejecting load allocations from power generating plants thereby throwing the nation into darkness. According to a report by Punch, some power plant units were being shut due to high frequency occasioned by the inability of the distribution companies to pick their load allocations. The report said Nigeria lost about 2,821.5MW of electricity generation on Monday, March 14 due to the rejection of loads by the Discos.
