The Senate leader, Ali Ndume, on Monday, July 25, said Nigerians should look beyond the fight between Oluremi Tinubu, wife of former Lagos state governor and Dino Melaye representing Kogi West senatorial district and focus on issues that can benefit the country. He said this while briefing newsmen in the National Assembly in Abuja.
Although he said he was not present when the misunderstanding between the two senators ensued, but the matter is a personal issue that should not attract public attention. He also added that he pleaded with the two senators on the issue. “These are personal issues between the two senators. I went to beg Tinubu. I also went to Melaye that they must settle these differences. “I think they are working on that. Oluremi personally told me that she has forgiven Dino and he also said he is ready to move on. “I am very passionate about this country but what has Oluremi’s issue have to do with anything. If I drop today, Senate will go on,” he said. Remi Tinubu had earlier accused Melaye of assaulting her verbally during an executive session of the Senate last week Tuesday, July 12. Melaye, who denied the allegation, had also made counter-claims that the female lawmaker also assaulted him verbally. This has caused a lot of backlash from Nigerians against the two senators.
However, the representative of Lagos Central senatorial district in the Senate has said as a Christian, she has forgiven Senator Melaye. Although she added that she would not be intimidated by anybody. Oluremi Tinubu however stated this on Wednesday, July 20, when a delegation of the Lagos state House of Assembly members from Lagos-Central and members of the All Progressives Congress caucus in the Senate as well as party leaders paid her a solidarity visit at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
