NEWS: One Dead, 2 Injured As APC LG Congress Ends In Violence In Lagos

“Obasa came to the venue at Dopemu, from nowhere a gunshot killed one of the party members. As he was going, his security men just dragged the guy that was shot, they dropped him on the other side of the road in order for him to pass and run away,” said the witness, who declined to be named for “political reasons”.

One person has been reported dead and two others injured as the local government congress of the All Progressive Congress in Agege area of Lagos ended in violence on Saturday.

Premium Times reported that the deceased who was shot dead after voting had ended was identified as Nurudeen Olanose, who is also a member of APC.

Premium Times quoted an eyewitness as confirming that violence broke out after Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly visited the venue of the congress.

“Obasa came to the venue at Dopemu, from nowhere a gunshot killed one of the party members. As he was going, his security men just dragged the guy that was shot, they dropped him on the other side of the road in order for him to pass and run away,” said the witness, who declined to be named for “political reasons”.

“Not quite 10 minutes later, another person was shot (dead) by Obasa’s boys again, and one other person was shot by the leg,” the witness said.

However, contradicting the witness, Musibau Razak, spokesperson to the speaker said his boss was not at the venue of the congress at the time of the incident.

Razak said, “From my investigation, it is the APC local government congress in Agege and those who were supposed to be at the congress venue were there, they did their congress and left. But you know in politics, there will always be disgruntled elements, I think that was what happened.

“What happened at Dopemu had nothing to do with my boss.

“Of course, as a member of APC and a Speaker, if anything happens, he will be contacted and he will make necessary arrangement for peace to reign. Policemen were there, SSS were there, the INEC was there, so nobody should link that thing to the Speaker. The Speaker’s effort is to maintain peace.”

Speaking in the same vein, Rotimi Sulyman, media adviser to Ganiyu Egunjobi, the Chairman of Agege Local Government said the Speaker was nowhere near the congress venue.

Lagos police spokesperson, Chike Oti told NAN that there was shooting from inside the venue and a bullet hit a man at the gate of Central Primary School, Oniwaya, Agege.

He also said three persons had been arrested over their alleged involvement in the killing.

But he did not mention the names of the suspects who he said had been taken to the State CID, Panti for interrogation.

“The victim was killed outside the venue of the APC ward election. The victims and those arrested had nothing to do with the election as they were not accredited,” Oti said.

POLITICS:Fayose Boasts: Fayemi Will Suffer The Worst Political Defeat Of His Career In July

  • “Fayemi will suffer the worst defeat of his political career," Fayose said. "After the July 14 election, he will go into political oblivion. He has nothing to celebrate because of the electoral disaster awaiting him. The manner of his so-called victory also leaves much to be desired as it has turned many of their party leaders and followers against him."

Kayode Fayemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July 14 Ekiti State governorship election, is about to suffer the worst political defeat of his career, Ayodele Fayose, Governor the state, has boasted.

Fayemi picked the APC ticket on Saturday, beating all comers to the highly-coveted prize at a rescheduled primary election.

Responding on Sunday via a statement issued and signed by Idowu Adelusi, his Chief Press Secretary, Fayose said Fayemi’s victory had only positioned the Minister for Solid Minerals Development for a defeat that will land him in political oblivion.

“In 2014 when he was the sitting governor and I was not in power, I trounced him mercilessly. I gave him 16 – 0, defeating him in all the local governments, including in his home town. He did not win a single local government,” Fayose taunted his opponent.

“Now, I have been in power for more than three years and have served the people of Ekiti well. My legacy projects are there to speak for me, and for my party the PDP, as well as for our candidate in the July 14 governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka.

“Fayemi will suffer the worst defeat of his political career. After the July 14 election, he will go into political oblivion. He has nothing to celebrate because of the electoral disaster awaiting him. The manner of his so-called victory also leaves much to be desired as it has turned many of their party leaders and followers against him.

“Fayemi’s victory has made the condition of APC worse in Ekiti. The party leaders and members know that Fayemi has no use for any of them beyond the July 14 election.”

Fayose appealed to aggrieved former PDP members who are now in the APC to return home, saying: “PDP is your natural habitat. This is the time for you to escape from the APC’s sinking boat and return home to a rousing welcome.

“We also invite other politicians not satisfied with the parlous state of affairs of our nation to join hands with PDP to rescue our nation.

“APC is falling apart everywhere. Fayemi is the final nail on APC’s coffin in Ekiti. He may deceive them in Abuja but he is a paperweight at home. His arrogance alienates Ekiti people and any serious politician from him. He will meet his political waterloo on July 14.”

NEWS: I Am Not Worried About Conspiracy Against Me-Fayemi

  • A former Ekiti State Governor and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Kayode Fayemi, has said he is not bothered about the conspiracy of some aspirants against him.

Kayode Fayemi

Former Ekiti State Governor and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Kayode Fayemi, has said he is not bothered about the conspiracy of some aspirants against him.

Fayemi said as a true democrat and leader, he has a large heart to accommodate everybody and hoped that the party would emerge stronger after the primary.

Fayemi spoke with our correspondent on the sideline of the ongoing governorship primary holding at Damlek Event Centre, Ado Ekiti.

He said, “It is a competition; people devise all sorts of means when they are in a competition. What is important is that after the exercise whoever emerges winner will be the candidate of the party and to my expectation, all of us will embrace whoever that person is.”

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development said the exercise was better than that of last week but that it would be too early to give a verdict until after the primary.

“It is a much better arrangement today, it is orderly, the instructions are clear, there is no rowdiness in any part of the exercise."

“The committee has done an incredibly good job and the security is also tight. People who have no business are not allowed in. In all these, so far so good. But we can’t reach a conclusion until after the whole exercise.”

Declaration Of IGP As 'Enemy Of Democracy' Will Be Challenged In Court - Police

He also justified his boss refusal to honor the Senate’s invitation with the argument that the key issues for which Mr. Idris was summoned for related to the criminal trial of Senator Dino Melaye, which is already in court.

Mr. David Igbodo, the legal adviser to the Nigeria Police Force said the declaration of Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, as ‘enemy of democracy’ by the Senate on Wednesday will be challenged in court.

Igbodo, a commissioner of police said this while speaking of Channels Television's breakfast programme, Sunrise, on the declaration made by the Senate after the Inspector General of Police repeatedly failed to honor the invitation of the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The Police legal adviser also said Mr. Idris should be commended for his contributions to the development of Nigeria’s democracy rather than being declared as the enemy

He added that Inspector General of Police respects due process, even as he also refuted the allegations that the police chief had in the past disobeyed instructions of President Muhammadu Buhari to go to Benue at the height of killings of villages in the State by Fulani herdsmen.

The legal adviser claimed that IGP stayed in Benue state for five days and only moved to Nassarawa when he got information that the group carrying out the killings were from the neighboring state.

He also said the IGP has appeared before the senate over 10 times since he was appointed in 2016 and therefore, cannot be said to be disrespectful of the lawmakers.

The police commissioner defended the decision of Mr. Idris to send a Deputy Inspector General to represent him when the Senate summoned him as he argued that official functions of the IGP can be performed by the DIG or Assistant Inspector General of Police.

He also justified his boss refusal to honor the Senate’s invitation with the argument that the key issues for which Mr. Idris was summoned for related to the criminal trial of Senator Dino Melaye, which is already in court.

He argued that the Senate lacks the power to summon anybody over a matter, which is already a subject of a court proceeding.

POLITICS: ‘I Have A Greater Political Engagement’, Says Oyinlola As He Dumps APC, NIMC

  •  “I gave the job the dedication it deserved and would have loved to continue but I regret to inform Your Excellency that I have a new, greater political engagement that will make that difficult and even impolitic," Oyinlolal said.

Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Governor of Osun State, has resigned both as Chairman of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and as a leading member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his resignation letter, dated May 9 and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Oyinlola said he resigned his appointment to take care of “a greater political engagement.”

“Sir, I write to resign my appointment as the chairman of National Identity Management Commission with effect from today, 9th May, 2018,” read the letter.

“Your Excellency, I must put on record my very deep sense of appreciation for the special privilege and consideration you gave me to serve our fatherland in that capacity.

“As I stated in my appreciation letter to you shortly after the appointment, the offer was a clear call to service.

“I gave the job the dedication it deserved and would have loved to continue but I regret to inform Your Excellency that I have a new, greater political engagement that will make that difficult and even impolitic.

“Sir, as one of my bosses in the Army, I believe you would understand my stand given recent political developments.

“The training I got as a decorated officer and gentleman precluded me from engaging in any act that could amount to disloyalty and conflict of interest.

“I am moving on to chart a new course in my politics outside the ruling party and this thus, demands my dropping the NIMC chairmanship.

“I thank you, sir, once again for the great honour and confidence reposed in me. However, there is time to take a job and another time to leave it and move on.

“For me, the time to work on something else in the interest and service of our people is now. I wish Your Excellency good luck while praying that you will finish well and strong in the service of our country.”

Oyinlola was appointed by Buhari as NIMC Chairman in September 2017. He joined the APC in August 2014.

FLASHBACK: 10 Months Ago, Oyinlola Vowed Never To Leave The APC

  • Prince Oyinlola is a major stakeholder in the party (APC); remember he was the secretary of the New PDP, a key component of the APC at the formative stage, he is also a member of the party's Board of Trustees.

  • He not only remains in the party but has also been silently working very hard to ensure its growth, stabily and unity in the face of recent challenges.

Prince Oyinlola

Politicians and footballers have a thing in common: they can both never be trusted. If a politician or a footballer says 'good morning', chances are high it's dusk — not dawn.

Who would forget how Chilean footballer Alexis Sanchez was on the verge of joining Pep Guardiola at Manchester City in January, only to stunning claim, after joining Manchester United days later, that his "dream since he was a young lad was to play for Manchester United"? What about Philippe Coutinho, the Brazilian who signed a bumper deal at Liverpool in January 2017 only to hand in a transfer request once Barcelona came calling six months later?

Politics is similar, too. Aisha Alhassan, Minister for Women Affairs, "swore by Allah" to resign once Buhari announces his intention to seek re-election, because definite 2019 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar is her Godfather and she could never — as she made us believe — support anyone but him. It is now more than a month since Buhari formally declared his second-term ambition; Alhassan is still in office. Perhaps she will resign tomorrow.

If Alhassan is still in office, why should anyone be surprised that Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Governor of Osun State, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) — 10 months after he publicly denied rumours of his impending departure from the party?

On July 31, 2017, Oyinlola's Secretary, Kazeem Adio, releasing a statement authorised by his principal, claimed reports of his boss's planned exit from APC were being circulated by "some faceless elements in the polity who chould be ignored".

The statement further read: "Prince Oyinlola is a major stakeholder in the party (APC); remember he was the secretary of the New PDP, a key component of the APC at the formative stage, he is also a member of the party's Board of Trustees. He not only remains in the party but has also been silently working very hard to ensure its growth, stabily and unity in the face of recent challenges.

"As a leader in Osun State who is at home with all segments of the society, Prince Oyinlola's major concern at the moment is how to strengthen the party, make it get closer to the people and continue to make their welfare a priority. The people of Osun State can get their interest better served by remaining with the APC."

Although the purpose of that statement was to debunk the exit rumours, anyone who read it analytically would have understood that the most important sentence is the last: "The people of Osun State can get their interest better served by remaining with the APC."

It should have been clear at once to the discerning that Oyinlola would only stay in APC for as long as his interest was served. At the moment, his personal interest lies elsewhere, hence his much-vaunted party loyalty has gone up in flames.

Can anyone be surprised, therefore? Politics is, after all, a game of interests!

INTERNATIONAL: Trump Pulls U.S Out Of Iran Nuclear Deal

While announcing the pullout of the U.S from the deal signed by his predecessor, Trump said he will sign an Executive order, imposing the most powerful sanctions possible against the Persian nation.

U.S. President Donald Trump signs executive order restricting immigration

U.S President, Donald Trump has pulled out his country from the nuclear deal it and its allies signed with Iran in July 2015

The deal stopped Iran from continuing its uranium enrichment and nuclear development programs.

While announcing the pullout of the U.S from the deal signed by his predecessor, Trump said he will sign an Executive order, imposing the most powerful sanctions possible against the Persian nation.

Trump says the deal is defective at its core and it cannot stop Iran from making a nuclear bomb.

The details of sanctions Trump intended to impose on Iran are not yet clear.

In response to Trump’s expected withdrawal of the U.S from the deal, oil prices rose on Monday. Brent crude, which is the benchmark for Nigerian oil, rose to $76.

Oil prices may further go up if the sanctions imposed on Iran by the U.S include a freeze on the country’s oil exports.

Iran exported close to a billion barrels of oil in 2017.

POLICE: After Third Snub In Two Weeks, Senate Declares IGP Idris 'Enemy Of Democracy

  • “The refusal of the IG to appear before an investigative committee as also ruled by a court of competent jurisdiction is a great danger to our democracy,” Saraki said. "Therefore, the Senate resolves to declare the IGP as an enemy of democracy and not fit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria."

For the third time in less than two weeks, Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris has again failed to honour the invitation of the Senate to give reasons for the arrest and detention of Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West, and also speak on insecurity in the country.

This has prompted the Senate to declare him “an enemy of democracy” who is “unfit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria”.

Idris was first summoned on April 25 but he failed to appear, instead accompanying President Muhammadu Buhari on an official visit to Borno State.

He was summoned for the second time to appear on May 2 but he again failed to honour it, delegating Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations) Joshak Habila, whom the Senate refused to entertain.

And for the third time on Wednesday, Idris ignored the summons.

Speaking on this development during the plenary, Senator Enyinaya Abaribe described the IGP’s behaviour as an indication that democracy in the country is dying a slow death.

“What is happening today in Nigeria shows that democracy is dying bit by bit and also shows the abuse of power and office by the IG,” he said. “What the IG is doing in the eyes of the world shows that there is no respect for the law.”

Senator Ahmad Lawan said: “It is very unusual for a public servant to act like this. I have never see this before anywhere in the world; we need to take a decision because this affects security in the entire country."

Senator Isah Misau referred to Idris as an incompetent individual not fit for office, saying: "What the IGP is doing is not against the Senate but against the presidency that appointed him into office; it's unfortunate. The IG is not competent to be in the office.”

Another senator added: "This is unacceptable and disrespectful. It requires immediate action and I think this Senate needs to take serious action in looking for a way forward.”

Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate, described Idris’s action as “disrespectful to the institution and constitutional authority”.

“The refusal of the IG to appear before an investigative committee as also ruled by a court of competent jurisdiction is a great danger to our democracy,” he said.

"Therefore, the Senate resolves to declare the IGP as an enemy of democracy and not fit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria."

NEWS: Asaba Christian Association Members Protest Killing of Nigerians

  • Like their counterparts in other parts of the country, members of the Asaba chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have also embarked on protest to show their anger over the indiscriminate killing of people in different parts of the country.   Archbishop God-Dowell Avwomakpa, chairman of the South-South CAN, who led the protest told Daily Post during an interview that the continuous killings in Benue and other states by herdsmen prompted the protest.

Protesting Christians

He also warned that the killings going on in the Northern part of the country may snowball into a religious war unless urgent action is taken to curb it.

“The continuous killings of Christians might spell doom if urgent steps are not taken to curb the situation.

"In order to create the impression that the Boko Haram protagonists are out to fight a religious war as was experienced during the Othman Dan-Fodio Jihad, religious fundamentalists should stop the killing of Christians across the entire Nigeria landmass, both on their farmlands or churches, as well as release the ones in their custody.”

Archbishop Avwomakpa also condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim that Nigerian youths are lazy, as he noted that an enabling environment has not been created for young Nigerians to thrive.

He said churches have been praying for an improved economy to ensure the provision of jobs for the people and that the president has the responsibility of delivering good governance to the people.

You're The One God Will Punish, Olapade Agoro Replies Buhari

  • Dr. Agoro said this in a statement he released on May 3 in reaction to recent assertion in an interview by the President God will judge past leaders of Nigeria over their failures to develop the country.

Dr. Agoro

Dr. Olapade Agoro, a presidential aspirant and chairman of National Action Council (NAC) said God will punish President Muhammadu Buhari for the killing of innocent people going on in the country, imprisonment and sentencing to death of people when he was military head of state and for inflicting suffering on Nigerians through the mismanagement of the economy by his administration.

Dr. Agoro said this in a statement he released on May 3 in reaction to recent assertion in an interview by the President God will judge past leaders of Nigeria over their failures to develop the country.

Dr. Agoro said, “If the Most Righteous God of justice were to mark the signs of inequity, it becomes apt to mention that President Muhammadu Buhari would be chief among those to the severely punished of all past and present Nigerian leaders if his political life misdemeanors were to be visited.

"God will no doubt punish President Muhammadu Buhari for the socio- economic unprecedented woes and blood of the innocent currently plaguing the nation and making lives not worth it for us all.

"From case of the poor and innocent Leah Suaribu now left languishing alone in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists, to the perspective of the most oppressive decree 2 promulgated by his regime in 1984, he sent two innocent Guardian Newspaper journalists Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabo to jail terms, that of the issue of 53 suit cases stowed away from custom checks, that of the retroactive Decree 20 that got Bartholomew Owoh executed rather than being sent to serve six months jail term under the then prevailing order,” Dr Agoro said.

“That of the Special Military Tribunal that jailed Governor Abubakar Musa Rimi for 21 years for corruptively enriching 96 legislators of Kano State House of Assembly with 500,000 naira on March 28 1985, that of 1984 jailing of Governor Awaal Muhammed of Niger State for corrupt practices; that of jailing former Governor Ambrose Ali of Bendel State to 100 years for misappropriation of N983, 000; that of 1984 sending former Rivers State Governor Melford Okilo to 21 years jail term for holding foreign bank account contrary to prevailing laws in Nigeria; that of sending Governor Aper Aku to 21 years jail term for borrowing Naira 50000 from Benue breweries; Sending Governor Sabo Bakin Suwo to 21 years jail term for boxes full of cash found in his house among others.”

The presidential aspirant also also pointed out that Nigerians have been wallowing in poverty and unemployment under Buhari as indicated in the World Bank report released on Monday 30, April 2018.

In his words, “God will no doubt and must punish President Muhammadu Buhari for his poor economic management of the nation’s resources. And lastly God will punish President Muhammadu Buhari because never has Nigeria had a sitting President or Head of State jumping over the bother line of decency and democratic values engaging bad language to pour vituperations and evil wishes on their wives, the youths of the country and our past leaders.”

Sahara Reporters had reported that President Buhari said that God will judge former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan and other past leaders of Nigeria for mismanagement of the country’s resources.‎

Police Nabs Seven Gang Of Armed Local Hunters Suspected To Be Herdsmen

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Wednesday arrested a gang of seven armed men claiming to be "hunters" from the northern part of the country.

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Wednesday arrested a gang of seven armed men claiming to be "hunters" from the northern part of the country.
The stern - looking men were nabbed at a local village in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Sahara Reporters gathered that the men were apprehended after locals raised an alarm over the invasion of the villages by suspected Fulani herdsmen with guns.

Femi Joseph, police spokesman in Ondo State disclosed this while parading the men before newsmen in Akure.
Joseph said the men were apprehended following an alarm from local residents in some communities near Owo.
He explained that the gang was nabbed with some dangerous weapons such as double barrel guns and also cartridges.
"They are from the northern extractions and they all claimed to be hunters who traveled down here to engage in hunting expeditions.
"We would still dig more into their claims and find out if their stories were true but if it is in the negative your guess is good as mine," Mr. Joseph added.
Also, the police spokesperson explained that officers from the command rescued three victims abducted on Tuesday by a gang of kidnappers on the notorious Ore - Lagos express road.
Mr. Joseph mentioned the names of the rescued kidnapped victims as- Nwosu Virgina, Opara Oluchi, and Okechueka Johnson.
He revealed that the three victims were parts of the passengers traveling from Imo state to Lagos in an 18 seater bus but waylaid by kidnappers mistaken for armed robbers on the express road.

"Our men were very swift and were able to rescue these kidnapped victims, but we are currently on their trails."

How I Stopped Kingibe, Abba Kyari, Rufai Abubakar From Stealing $44m-Former Acting D-G, NIA

They kept insisting that they had the mandate of the President and that the President had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to hands off the money and that it was legitimately ours.

Immediate past Acting Director-General (D-G) of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr Mohammed Dauda, has disclosed that he fought off attempts by Messrs. Babagana Kingibe, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and his protégé and incumbent D-G of the NIA, Mr. Rufai Abubakar and Abba Kyari, President Muhammadu Buhari's Chief of Staff to steal $44million NIA intervention fund.  The disclosure was made in a brief to the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence.
In the brief, exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, Mr. Dauda said he assumed office as Acting D-G on November 6 2017, following a brief meeting with Mr. Kyari at the Presidential Villa. The Chief of Staff, he said, conveyed the President's directive to him that he should function in an acting capacity while waiting for further directives.
On leaving the Presidential Villa, Mr. Dauda said he headed straight to have a meeting with Mr. Arab Yadam who was D-G in an acting capacity but was retiring. The meeting, he said, dwelt on what the retiring Acting D-G did in the seven months during which he ran the agency.   The briefing, said Mr. Dauda, comprised his administrative, operational and technical duties, all of which were highly confidential. Mr. Yadam also gave his successor the picture of the agency's financial position, which included $44million he informed was part of the intervention fund that brought the Ikoyi apartment cash scandal.
After the briefing, Mr. Yadam introduced Mr. Dauda to Brigadier-General Mohammed Ja'afaru, the Acting Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) who briefed him on the nature of the agency's assignments. Among these are the daily operations of the accounts for both domestic and foreign management. The Acting DFA also told Mr. Dauda that the $44million in his custody, which was not part of the agency's budgetary allocation, should not be touched because it had become an exhibit in an ongoing case. The purpose of the disclosure, Mr. Dauda said, was for his information.
Not long after Mr. Dauda assumed office, the Presidential Review Panel (PRP) headed by Mr. Kingibe started its assignment within NIA. The agency provided the members of the panel with office space, accommodation, food and other logistics. Aside from Mr. Kingibe, other members include Mr. Albert K. Horsfall, a former D-G of the State Security Service; Mr. Olaniyi Oladeji, Mr. ZY Ibrahim both former DGs of the NIA and the current DG of NIA, Mr. Abubakar, who was PRP Secretary.
After the maiden meeting with the panel, said Mr. Dauda, Mr. Kingibe called him to advise that in his own interest, he should cooperate with them fully and avoid being close with Buhari's National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, Mr. Kingibe also disclosed that they had presidential powers to overrule previous instructions or directives issued by the NSA.
"I was instructed to channel all our activities, contacts, concerns and complaints through the Office of the Chief of Staff Abba Kyari only," said Mr. Dauda.
He said the instructions left him in discomfort, as they contradict all the provisions of the agency's instruments. Not wanting to start on a confrontational note, he kept away from the NSA as instructed.
According to him, things went on smoothly untilKingibe and Abubakar kept pressuring him for money. Mr. Dauda said he explained that the agency's dollar account was low because of the difficulty in sourcing dollars from the Central Bank of Nigeria following the crises that arose from the Ikoyi money scandal. However, the replied that the $44m in the custody of the Acting DFA belongs to the agency and that the DFA had no power to stop Mr. Dauda from spending the money. They added that since the crisis had blown over, Mr. Dauda should go and tell Brigadier-General Jafa'aru to return to his job in the army. He was advised to write to the National Security Adviser to withdraw him or ask the NIA security department to stop him from entering the premises of the agency.
Mr. Dauda said the pressure was huge, but he felt if Brigadier-General Jafa'aru left, he might not be able to resist further pressure from the desperate Kingibe led gang.
"They kept insisting that they had the mandate of the President and that the President had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to hands off the money and that it was legitimately ours. They verbally queried me on the logic of keeping the money as an exhibit since there was no case pending in court. Ambassador Kingibe told me that he was the one who, through the Chief of Staff drafted the memo that the President assented to, instructing the EFCC to hands off our case (Ikoyi cash . scandal) just to convince me that there are no more encumbrances on the money," stated Mr. Dauda.
Still, no dice. He claimed that Kingibe and others kept pressuring and threatening that if he did not get rid of the Brigadier-General, he would have regrets. Mr. Dauda said he had no reason to get the man out and he actually enjoyed working with him. His refusal to do as they wished, he said, this prompted Messrs. Kingibe and Abubakar to tell him at a meeting that he was refusing presidential orders to bar the Brigadier-General from the NIA premises. They warned him that there might be consequences if he remained adamant. At one of the meetings, explained Mr. Dauda, Mr. Horsfall advised him to ignore any suggestion that could cause confrontation between him and the NSA and advised his colleagues on the panel to put it as part of their recommendations to the President since they had his mandate, so he could order the NSA to remove the Acting DFA from the NSA.
The pressure on him for money, the former Acting D-G said, intensified.
"They wanted money for medical treatment or holidays abroad for their families and girlfriends. I met and gave a lady Ambassador Kingibe simply introduced to me as "Angela"  money twice at the car park of the Hilton Hotel. Once $50,000 and the second time $20,000, which apparently did not impress him. Even the current DG NIA once called me on WhatsApp, just like Amb. Kingibe always does and said that his Oga was traveling to London for medical check-up and he suggested that I should find something for him as a sign of good will. So, I reluctantly gave him $50,000 against my will, a decision that made me sad throughout the day," he said. He added that Mr. Kingibe collected over $200,000 from him during the time he headed the PRP. Mr. Dauda said he was always using the President's name to squeeze cash out of the NIA. They also undermined the Office of the National Security Adviser.
On December 20 2017, said the former Acting DG, Mr. Kingibe asked the current DG NIA to tell him to meet them at home located at 59 Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro, Abuja. He was asked to come alone. At the meeting, he was told of his refusal to cooperate with them and they had brought him there to warn that the Acting DFA was conspiring with some people to steal the $44million in their safe. He was warned that he would be held liable if he did not stop their plan.
"They told me that their Committee had completed their assignment and that their recommendations were so generous to the DG NIA. They said they recommended the appointment of two Deputy Directors-General and watered down their powers enough so that they will not be in a position to pose any threat to him as the DG," wrote Mr. Dauda.
They then suggested that it was his turn to do something in return as he was likely to get the President's nod as the substantive DG only if he could immediately make $2million available.
"I told them it was not going to be possible as the only money available was the $44million and I didn't know how to approach the Acting DFA. They also told me at the meeting that if I can't  sack the DFA, they would send someone to do it soon. That was my last communication with them until I heard of my removal from office on Wednesday 11 January on Channels Television around 8 pm,' said Mr. Dauda.
The next day, he advised the NSA to look at the possibility of evacuating the money from the NIA, an advice the NSA heeded. The money was moved and taken to the Office of the NSA.
Later that night, Mr. Dauda said he received a call from the Mr. Abubakar, who requested for a meeting with him and the staff who worked with him at 10pm. Mr. Abubakar said the meeting was ordered by Mr. Kyari. The meeting was eventually moved to the next day after Mr. Dauda protested that it was too late. At the meeting the next day, an enraged Mr. Abubakar said the Presidency blamed him for not taking over immediately thereby giving room for the money to be taken away and warned that Mr. Dauda would be held responsible.
When he finished, Mr. Dauda said he told him no money was missing and that he approved the transfer so the money could be safe.
"I told him that if there was no ulterior motive, the apprehension was unfounded. I also warned him to mind his language as I have always been his senior in this service," Mr. Dauda stated.
He equally stated that his life is being threatened by the Kingibe gang and requested immediate protection for him and his family. Mr. Abubakar, he said, has already shown his hand with a letter requesting Mr. Dauda to return official vehicles in his possession. He has also received another letter restricting his movement on the claim that the agency was investigating leakage of sensitive information.
"These are acts meant to cow and intimidate me into submission and there are also attempts to bundle me out of my official quarters through extra-legal means and also to withdraw my security details, thereby impacting my security," he said.
He called on the House Committee not to allow the Kingibe gang to subvert the rule of law by bullying him into submission.

Buhari appoints Tinubu to head APC reconciliation team

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building team as a measure towards improving cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the presidential aide, the assignment will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the federation.

The Kano State APC crisis involving supporters of former Gov. Rabiu Kwakwanso and the serving Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is one of the task of the Tinubu reconciliation committee.

It would be recalled that the Presidency, on Jan. 29, summoned Gov. Ganduje and Kwakwanso over the aborted Jan. 30 visit of the former governor to Kano to avert breakdown of law and order in the state.

The governor, accompanied by two serving senators and two members of House of Representatives from the state met with the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari at the Presidential Villa. Ganduje, however, declined to speak to State House correspondents after the closed door meeting.

The Tinubu committee is also expected to reconcile other APC members in Kaduna, Zamfara, Oyo, Kogi and other states of the federation.
